Courtney joined Uplift as a student back in 2010 after taking part in a Young Americans workshop at Carrickfergus College and realised the arts was something she wanted to pursue. When Courtney first joined Uplift she was an extremely quiet and shy student who only really came out of herself when performing and she has grown into a confident performer and teacher due to the support and encouragement she received throughout the years from her teachers. She is now able to call her teachers her colleagues also as she came on board as a staff member in 2013 as Uplift’s administrator. Courtney also helps out teaching as specific events throughout the year specifically Uplift’s Summer Camps and in 2014 she was part of the original cast that travelled to Danville, Kentucky, to teach a 2 week Summer Camp. In 2016 she also travelled to L.A. to take part in a worldwide dance convention called Dance Excellence with her fellow Uplifters, she was completely inspired by this experience and it will be an experience she will never forget. Courtney has also performed in 4 Dinner Theatre’s and looks forward to many more performances with Uplift.
From a young age Courtney was always a sporty and active child taking part in many sports within school as well as competing in Irish Dancing Festivals for many years and becoming U10 Northern Ireland Champion in Rhythmic Gymnastics. Courtney has taken part in workshops with Autumn Marie-Dones, Mandy Montanez and Bronagh Waugh as she is always keen to learn new skills from professionals within the industry.
Courtney is currently studying at the Northern Regional College, Newtownabbey gaining a qualification in Performing Arts. Within this course Courtney studies, Theatre for Children, Auditions for Actors, Performance Workshop, Jazz and Contemporary Technique, Musical Theatre Performance, Voice Technique and many more. Courtney has gained a lot of knowledge throughout this course and gained Top of the Class with her results. Courtney hopes that her experience and knowledge in the arts can be passed on throughout the younger generation of Uplift as we have a strong family of committed Uplifters who all share the same passion. This is Courtney’s favourite thing about Uplift as she believes the students have a bond like no other and help support, encourage and uplift one another. She loves watching kids coming out of their comfort zone and being able to work with kids within the community and further afield.
